In order to support authors who choose to make their books and chapters immediately available upon publication, Springer Nature has compiled a list of research funders and institutions worldwide that fund open access book processing charges (BPCs) and chapter processing charges (CPCs).
Sources of funding are listed by country, and links to each organisation’s open access funding and policy/information pages have been included where available. Please note that this page currently only shows open access policies for funders or institutions that make open access funding available.
Organisations have been listed only where they have specified that they have funding dedicated for open access books (monographs and/or edited collections) or that their open access funds extends beyond journal articles and may be used for peer-reviewed books and chapters. Where funders and institutions make open access funding for chapters but not for books, this has been indicated by an asterisk (*).
The information on this page is updated regularly, and reflects BPC funding sources to the best of our knowledge. To suggest updates or additions to this list, please contact us at OAfundingpolicy@springernature.com.
To find out about funding for open access articles, see our list of organisations that provide funding for article processing charges (APCs).
NOTE: As of the start of 2024, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has instituted an open access mandate for certain research outputs published as books or book chapters. For more information on the mandate and the corresponding open access fund that has been made available, please see the links below under UK-->UK Research and Innovation.
